Contactless Payments

Bring your card, or a wearable/mobile device that can accept payments, within a few inches from the Contactless Symbol. Depending on the terminal, you might be directed to tap, above or below the screen. Your transaction will be completed in a matter of seconds and the receipt will show on the screen of the point of sale or terminal for cards.

Visa announced in mid-2020 that the worldwide use of contactless cards increased by more than 100% from year to year. Many merchants, including supermarkets, restaurants, pharmacies and vending machines are equipped with contactless terminals that you can tap to pay for services or products. You can also connect your Visa contactless card to a smartphone or digital wallet service like Apple Pay or Android Pay that makes it easier to pay at the swipe of a finger.

Contactless transactions are so secure because every tap generates an encrypted unique code. This code is nearly impossible to copy or duplicate which makes it very difficult for thieves to make fraudulent purchases. If your card is lost or stolen, the fraud departments of the card issuer are able to flag and reverse any unauthorized purchases.

As with all new technologies, there are horror stories, but you should be aware that contactless cards are as secure as traditional chip cards. Visa’s Zero Liability Policy will cover you if anything goes wrong. Your card issuer has fraud departments that ensure your security.
